IPERU, Ogun State — ValueJet, in partnership with Gateway Air, has announced the commencement of a daily flight service connecting Abuja to Gateway International Airport in Iperu, Ogun State, through Lagos.
According to a statement issued by the airline, the new Abuja–Lagos–Gateway route is intended to improve air connectivity between Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory and Ogun State, providing passengers with easier access to the state's commercial and industrial centres. The airline said the service is designed to allow travellers arriving from Abuja to complete business meetings, official engagements and other activities in Ogun State on the same day. Managing Director of ValueJet, Omololu Majekodunmi, said the early morning service was introduced to meet the needs of business travellers and other passengers with demanding schedules.
"Our daily Abuja–Lagos–Gateway service is about giving our passengers their day back. Whether travelling for business or personal engagements in Ogun State and its environs, the service provides a route that fits around a busy schedule," he said.
Ogun State Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Olugbenga Dairo, said the service aligns with the state government's efforts to improve air transportation and strengthen links with major commercial centres across Nigeria. According to the commissioner, Governor Dapo Abiodun has directed that Gateway Air continue to review its schedules and operational capacity to meet the needs of travellers.
The state government said improved air connectivity is expected to benefit investors, manufacturers, government officials, students and other passengers travelling between Abuja and Ogun State.
Ogun State has become one of Nigeria's leading industrial hubs, hosting numerous manufacturing companies, industrial estates, logistics centres and agricultural businesses. Improved access through Gateway International Airport is expected to reduce travel time for passengers who would otherwise rely on road transportation. ValueJet said the new route forms part of its broader strategy to expand domestic and regional connectivity through partnerships and network growth.
The airline currently operates domestic services within Nigeria as well as regional flights to destinations including Accra, Banjul, Cotonou and Malabo. It also disclosed plans for further network expansion.
