OGUN 2027: ODAF QUESTIONS ADEBUTU’S ELIGIBILITY OVER PDP MEMBERSHIP REGISTER

The Ogun Democratic Accountability Forum (ODAF) has raised questions over the eligibility of Hon. Ladi Adebutu to contest the 2027 Ogun State governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

ODAF alleges that Adebutu’s name is not contained in the PDP membership register submitted to INEC, and says a Certified True Copy obtained from the Commission supports its claim.

The group is relying on provisions of  Section 77 of the Electoral Act 2026, particularly the sections dealing with membership registers and participation in party primaries.

However, the alleged register and the claim that Adebutu is automatically disqualified have not been independently verified by OTA GOSSIP.

The development comes after the Supreme Court recently restored Sections 77(5), (6) and (7) of the Electoral Act, provisions concerning the membership register to be used for party primaries, congresses and conventions.

Adebutu and the PDP had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of this report.

What do you make of the development?

Ladi Adebutu, to the Palace of the Olota of Ota, reportedly in connection with an “Awori Obas Forum.” In a statement signed by Chief Kazeem Akinsola Nasir, Ìríjú Oba of Ado-Odo and Secretary to the Palace, the palace said the gathering should not be interpreted as representing all Awori traditional rulers in Ogun State. The Palace further stated that there is currently no legally recognised Awori Traditional Council or Awori Council of Obas in Ogun State with statutory authority to speak on behalf of all Awori monarchs across the state. It also emphasised the distinct traditional position of the ...
