ABEOKUTA, Ogun State — More than 20,000 candidates have participated in screening exercises organised by the Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology for admission into the state’s flagship secondary schools.
The exercise covered 44 flagship secondary schools across Ogun State’s three senatorial districts, with education officials monitoring the process across the Egba, Remo and Ijebu divisions.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, described the turnout as impressive while monitoring the exercise across the state.
The screening is part of the state government’s admission process for prospective students seeking placement in its flagship secondary schools.
According to information from the Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the flagship-school programme is designed around selected public secondary schools across the state.
The ministry’s official information indicates that the pioneer flagship cohort entered Junior Secondary School 1 in the 2021/2022 academic session and is expected to sit for its first full West African Senior School Certificate Examination in the 2026/2027 examination cycle.
The latest screening exercise therefore represents another stage in the state's admission process for students seeking places in the designated flagship schools.
Residents of the Sango-Ota area are among communities with strong interest in access to public secondary education. Ogun State has continued to develop its flagship secondary-school programme as part of efforts to strengthen public education and provide students with improved learning facilities and academic opportunities.
The state government's education programme includes investments in school infrastructure and digital learning facilities. The flagship-school initiative is also expected to produce its first full WAEC cohort in the 2026/2027 examination cycle.
