POLICE RECOVER STOLEN TOYOTA CAMRY AT IFO HOTEL, ARREST ONE SUSPECT

The Ogun State Police Command has recovered a stolen 2016 Toyota Camry from a hotel in Ifo less than eight hours after the vehicle was reported missing, with one suspect arrested in connection with the incident.

According to the Command, the vehicle, belonging to an Indian national based at the Ilupeju Industrial Estate in Lagos, was allegedly stolen on September 9, 2026, by the owner’s newly employed driver, identified as Waidi Olaide Kolawale.

Police said Kolawale had been employed only two days before the incident and reportedly told his employer that he was taking the vehicle to a nearby vulcaniser to repair a tyre. He allegedly failed to return with the vehicle.

Following the report, the vehicle was electronically tracked to the Ifo axis. The Divisional Police Officer, Ifo Division, CSP Kamorudeen Olabisi, reportedly coordinated surveillance and anti-robbery operatives who tracked the vehicle through several locations.

The vehicle was eventually located at a hotel in Ifo at about 8:30 p.m. Police said Kolawale fled from the scene with the vehicle’s ignition key, while an alleged accomplice, Monday Adetunji, was arrested.

Preliminary investigation reportedly indicated that the suspects had approached a mechanic to remove the vehicle’s catalytic converter, but the mechanic declined.

The recovered vehicle has been secured, while police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect and establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Ifo operatives for their swift response and investigative efforts.

The Command also advised vehicle owners to consider using tracking devices and additional anti-theft measures, while urging vehicle owners and businesses to carry out proper checks before entrusting individuals with access to their property.

Hoteliers were similarly advised to maintain proper records and report suspicious persons, vehicles or activities to security agencies.

The suspect remains innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
