OLOFIN OF ADO-ODO PALACE CLARIFIES LADI ADEBUTU’S VISIT TO OLOTA, SAYS MEETING DID NOT REPRESENT ALL AWORI OBAS The Palace of the Olofin Adimula of Ado-Odo has clarified the recent visit of the PDP Governorship Candidate, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, to the Palace of the Olota of Ota, reportedly in connection with an “Awori Obas Forum.” In a statement signed by Chief Kazeem Akinsola Nasir, Ìríjú Oba of Ado-Odo and Secretary to the Palace, the palace said the gathering should not be interpreted as representing all Awori traditional rulers in Ogun State. The statement noted that while Ota remains an important Awori town, the gathering appeared to involve traditional rulers mainly from the Ota and Igbesa axis. The Palace further stated that there is currently no legally recognised Awori Traditional Council or Awori Council of Obas in Ogun State with statutory authority to speak on behalf of all Awori monarchs across the state. HON OKIKIOLA OLUDEGUN VISITS OLOTA, TO BE CONFERRED AS AKINSIKU OF OTTA

 The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency, Ogun State, Hon. Okikiola Oludegun, has paid a courtesy visit to the Olota of Otta, His Majesty, Professor Adeyemi Obalanlege, at the Olota’s Palace. Oludegun, accompanied by family members, political associates and supporters, said the visit was to seek the monarch’s royal blessings and update him on his consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections. POLICE ARREST TWO SUSPECTED CARJACKERS IN ATAN - OTA OGUN STATE, RECOVER 3 PISTOLS

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a carjacking syndicate allegedly operating around Ota, Iju, Baba-Ode and Atan . The suspects, identified as Adeyinka Onakomaya, 46, and Olayiwola Kehinde, 48 , were arrested during follow-up investigations into a stolen Toyota Matrix recovered in April 2026. Police said three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges were recovered from the suspects. According to the Command, preliminary investigations linked the suspects to several armed robbery and vehicle-snatching operations in the area. OGUN DECLARES THURSDAY, AUGUST 20, PUBLIC HOLIDAY FOR ISESE DAY

The Ogun State Government has declared Thursday, August 20, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Isese Day celebration. The government said the declaration reflects its commitment to preserving and promoting Yoruba culture, heritage and traditional values. Isese Day provides an opportunity for adherents of the Yoruba traditional religion to honour their ancestors, observe traditional rites and celebrate the cultural values passed down through generations. Woman Alleges Police Arresting Traders Selling Sachet Alcohol in Sango-Ota Amid Ongoing Crackdown A woman has alleged that she was arrested by police while opening her shop in the Sango-Ota area of Ogun State over the sale of sachet alcoholic drinks. According to her account in a viral video, officers arrived at her shop, confiscated some of her goods and took her to the police station. She claimed she was later released after paying money to secure her freedom. Ogun Govt Begins Environmental Cleanup in Ogijo Over Alleged Lead Contamination

The Ogun State Government has commenced a major environmental remediation exercise in Ogijo following investigations into alleged lead contamination linked to used lead-acid battery recycling facilities operating within the industrial community. The exercise follows a comprehensive audit of the recycling plants, including tests conducted on soil, water, air, and residents' blood samples to determine the level of contamination. Speaking during the flag-off of the cleanup, the General Manager of the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), Kehinde Bello, disclosed that the government has begun evacuating hazardous slag illegally dumped in communities surrounding the recycling facilities. According to Bello, the evacuation process is expected to take several weeks due to the large volume of waste scattered across affected areas.
