The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, has called for greater religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, describing mutual respect as essential to achieving lasting peace and security.
CP Ojajuni made the call on Sunday, August 9, 2026, while joining Catholic faithful, senior police officers and members of the Nigeria Police Force at St. Martin’s Police Catholic Church, Ogun State, for a series of religious ceremonies.
The event was presided over by the Catholic Bishop of Abeokuta Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Peter Olukayode Odetoyinbo, and featured the Sacrament of Confirmation for 65 candidates, the blessing of a newly constructed Grotto of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, and the foundation-laying ceremony for a Catholic Chaplains’ House.
Speaking at the occasion, CP Ojajuni congratulated the newly confirmed candidates and commended the Catholic community for its commitment to faith, discipline and service to humanity.
He stressed that Nigeria's diversity should be a source of strength, urging religious leaders and faithful across different denominations to promote love, unity, understanding and peaceful coexistence, while rejecting extremism and religious intolerance.
The Commissioner also reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protecting the rights of citizens to practise their respective religions within the law.
He commended the Catholic Chaplain, CSP Rev. Fr. Paul Omotosho, for his dedication to the spiritual welfare of police personnel and the wider Catholic community.
