The Ogun State Police Command has impounded six vehicles and cleared shanties, illegal structures and other road obstructions around the Sango-Ota axis as part of its ongoing traffic enforcement operation, tagged Operation No Traffic Gridlock.
The operation also covered the Ijebu-Ode Toll Gate axis, where police officers carried out enforcement against indiscriminate parking of heavy-duty trucks, roadside trading and other activities obstructing vehicular movement.
According to the Ogun State Police Command, the exercise was carried out under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, as part of efforts to decongest major highways and improve traffic flow across the state. The command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday, April 13, 2026.
In Sango-Ota, the police said coordinated night operations were conducted to remove shanties and illegal structures encroaching on road setbacks and contributing to traffic congestion.
The command said follow-up enforcement operations began as early as 5:00 a.m., leading to the clearance of major obstruction points and the impoundment of six vehicles found to have violated traffic regulations.
The police said the clearance had begun to improve vehicular movement in the area, while sustained monitoring would continue to prevent the return of illegal structures and road obstructions.
At the Ijebu-Ode Toll Gate axis, the police carried out a sustained sanitisation exercise focused on indiscriminate parking of heavy-duty trucks and roadside trading along the highway.
According to the command, the operation resulted in the clearance of truck build-ups and other obstructions that had contributed to traffic delays in the area.
The Commissioner of Police warned that illegal parking, roadside trading and obstruction of highways would not be tolerated, adding that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The command said enforcement would continue as part of efforts to achieve improved traffic flow across affected corridors in Ogun State.
