A 30-year-old private school teacher in Ogun State, identified as Nathaniel Baiyegun, has been arrested over the alleged abduction and killing of a 16-year-old WASSCE candidate, Florence, said to be his former student.
According to police findings, the suspect allegedly lured the teenager under the guise of attending an academic coaching class before later demanding ransom from her family.
Investigators revealed that after collecting ₦500,000 ransom, the suspect allegedly spent most of the money on online sports betting.
Police further disclosed that the victim was reportedly drugged with sleeping tablets and later dumped in a river after the suspect believed she had died.
The shocking incident has sparked outrage online, with many Nigerians calling for justice and stricter protection for students and young girls.
The Ogun State Police Command says investigations are ongoing.
