Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a husband and wife for allegedly operating a child-stealing syndicate in the Mowe area of Ogun State.
The suspects, identified as Ugochukwu Mathew and Oluwarankami Kehinde Ugochukwu, were apprehended by detectives attached to the Mowe Division under the leadership of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Afeniforo Folake.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the operation led to the rescue of three stolen children from the suspects’ hideout in the Kekere Ekun area of Mowe.
Police investigations revealed that the arrest followed a complaint from a nursing mother who reported that one of the suspects allegedly took away her four-month-old baby while pretending to assist her at a clinic where she was receiving treatment.
The suspect reportedly disappeared with the baby after gaining the mother’s trust.
Following the report, detectives launched an intelligence-driven operation, placing motor parks and strategic areas under surveillance before tracking the suspects to their location.
During the raid, officers rescued the missing baby alongside two other children discovered in the suspects’ possession.
Further investigation showed that one of the rescued children had previously been declared missing in a 2024 child abduction case involving a similar method of deception.
Police confirmed that the biological parents of two of the rescued children have already identified their children.
The case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, for further investigation.
