Two staff members of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) have been abducted by suspected gunmen along the Ibadan–Ijebu Expressway in Ogun State, sparking fresh concerns over security on major highways.
The victims, attached to the Sagamu/Ikenne Business Unit, were reportedly kidnapped on April 29, 2026, at the Ogunmakin axis while carrying out official duties.
According to family sources, the kidnappers have demanded a total ransom of ₦40 million — ₦20 million per victim — and have refused to negotiate. The abductors allegedly contacted relatives using one of the victims’ phones, and during a distressing video call, the victims appeared badly beaten and in critical condition.
Families of the abducted workers described the situation as heartbreaking, expressing fears for their safety if urgent action is not taken. They also raised concerns over the response from IBEDC, claiming the company advised them to handle the situation independently despite the victims being on duty at the time of the incident.
Calls have now intensified for swift intervention from security agencies, including the Nigeria Police, DSS, and Amotekun Corps, as well as the Ogun State Government and the Federal Ministry of Power.
Residents and commuters are once again reminded of the growing insecurity along key routes, as families continue to hope for the safe return of their loved ones.
