HISTORIC MILESTONE: OGUN STATE JOINS NIGERIA’S OIL-PRODUCING STATES AS NNPCL BEGINS DRILLING OPERATIONS


Ogun State has officially taken a major step into Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) commencing drilling activities at the Eba Oil Well in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.

The landmark project, approved by the Federal Government, marks the beginning of what could become a new era of economic growth and industrial development for the state.

According to authorities, preparations are already underway for commercial oil production, with the project expected to create employment opportunities, attract investors, and stimulate economic activities across coastal communities in Ogun State.

Governor Dapo Abiodun described the development as a significant achievement, noting that it aligns with efforts to expand the state's economic base and unlock new opportunities for residents.

Officials also emphasized that security, environmental sustainability, and active engagement with host communities will remain top priorities as operations progress.

The Eba Oil Well project forms part of Nigeria’s broader strategy to increase crude oil production beyond the Niger Delta region and strengthen the nation's energy sector.

SO-SAFE CORPS SMASHES DIESEL THEFT SYNDICATE IN ILARO, ARRESTS THREE SUSPECTS

Operatives of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) have arrested three suspects allegedly involved in the theft and illegal purchase of diesel meant for a road construction project along Sokoto Road, Idogo, in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area. According to the Corps, the operation followed weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance after reports emerged that diesel allocated for the road project was being diverted and sold to a criminal network. Acting on credible intelligence, officers laid an ambush and intercepted the suspects after a dramatic chase.
