Former Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has dismissed reports surrounding the recent All Progressives Congress stakeholders’ meeting in Ogun Central, describing many accounts as inaccurate and misleading.
In a statement issued by his media office, Amosun clarified that the meeting, held on April 23, 2026, at the residence of Olusegun Osoba, was convened at his instance following speculations about his possible senatorial ambition ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, he only recounted how three aspirants had earlier approached him seeking support and voluntarily indicated their willingness to step down if he decided to contest. He stressed that at no point during the meeting did he ask anyone to withdraw from the race, noting that such action would be undemocratic.
Amosun reaffirmed his democratic credentials, highlighting his past electoral victories as both governor and senator, and maintained that he would not participate in any primary election with a predetermined outcome.
He also urged the media to uphold professionalism by verifying information before publication, warning against the spread of misleading narratives.
