Community leaders, residents, and a licensed mining operator in Feru Community, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Ogun State, have appealed to the Federal Government to urgently intervene over a prolonged land ownership dispute they say has triggered repeated violence, alleged kidnappings, and attacks in the area.
The licensed miner, Alhaji Gbenga Ibrahim Ibuoye, said he legally acquired about 166 acres of land for mining operations and invested heavily in the project, including constructing a 3-kilometre access road.
According to him, the dispute escalated after the land ownership was challenged, resulting in repeated attacks on the mining site, injuries to workers, disruption of operations, and the alleged disappearance of one of his employees, Tosin Samson, who has reportedly been missing for over three weeks.
Ibuoye also alleged that several commercial motorcycles used by workers were seized during the incidents and called on the Federal Government to deploy a joint security task force to restore peace, investigate the allegations, recover stolen property, and ensure the safe resumption of lawful mining activities.
The Community Head of Feru, Chief Ishola Adelemo, also appealed for increased security, describing the situation as a threat to residents, investors, and the community's peace.
The allegations contained in this report reflect claims made by the parties involved. Relevant authorities are expected to investigate the matter.
