History Of Ipokia In Ogun State

Ipokia is a Local Government Area in the west of Ogun State, Nigeria bordering the Republic of Benin. Its headquarters is Ipokia town. There are other towns like Idiroko, Oniro, Ita Egbe, Ihunbo, Agosasa, Aseko, Maun, Koko, Iropo, Alaari, Tube, Ilashe, Ifonyintedo, Madoga, Ijofin and Tongeji in the town of Ipokia

It has an area of 629 km² and a population of 150,426 at the 2006 census. It the capital of Ipokia Local Government. The current traditional Head (King) is the HRM Oba Raufu Oladeinde Adetunji Adeole (JP), the Onipokia of Ipokia.

Notable indigenes from the town include the Late Chief Bolarinwa Yakubu Abioro (Balogun of Ipokia and Former Minority Leader of the House of Assembly in old western region, Late Ambassador Lamidi Maliki (Former Diplomat), Ambassador Isiaka Adesola Abolurin (Former Diplomat), Late Chief Salisu Odunjo Ojo (Fmr Chairman Ipokia Local Govt), Alhaji Muibi Adesegun Adeosun, Mr Taiye Elegbede, Alhaja Salmot Makanjuola Badru (fmr Deputy Governor, Ogun State), Hon. Kamorudeen Oduntan, Late Chief Tebun Fabgemi, Dr Bolarinwa Abolurin, Alhaji Rasheed Adegbite, Late Chief Mautin, Late Dele Arojo (gubernatorial aspirant), to mention but few.

MINERAL/NATURAL RESOURCES Ipokia town has large deposits of Kaolin and Red clay. The vast fertile land is available for Agriculture. It is equally rich in soft sand used in the construction industry. There is large and commercial deposit of crude oil on Tongeji Island (a town under Ipokia) as Oil and Gas Industries can position themselves to tap the opportunities offered by its presence.

TOURISM A mega tourist city and sea institute was being developed at Whekan Island by the team of Queens Atlantic Resorts Inc., of Las Vegas, Nevada U.S.A. there is room for Boat Regatta, Canoeing and fishing along the Badagry creek. Although the project has since stop due to issue not known. Tongeji Island is an holiday haven with its impressive water front and breathtaking scenery, the island is a beauty to behold. Onigbaale Forest is equally a major tourist attraction. It was reported that the 1st Onigbaale of Ipokia precisely disappeared there and has since not been seen.

FAMOUS FOOD Ipokia cuisine is rich with numerous delicacies original to the Town. OLOFIN OF ADO-ODO PALACE CLARIFIES LADI ADEBUTU’S VISIT TO OLOTA, SAYS MEETING DID NOT REPRESENT ALL AWORI OBAS The Palace of the Olofin Adimula of Ado-Odo has clarified the recent visit of the PDP Governorship Candidate, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, to the Palace of the Olota of Ota, reportedly in connection with an “Awori Obas Forum.” In a statement signed by Chief Kazeem Akinsola Nasir, Ìríjú Oba of Ado-Odo and Secretary to the Palace, the palace said the gathering should not be interpreted as representing all Awori traditional rulers in Ogun State. The statement noted that while Ota remains an important Awori town, the gathering appeared to involve traditional rulers mainly from the Ota and Igbesa axis. SO-SAFE CORPS SMASHES DIESEL THEFT SYNDICATE IN ILARO, ARRESTS THREE SUSPECTS

Operatives of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) have arrested three suspects allegedly involved in the theft and illegal purchase of diesel meant for a road construction project along Sokoto Road, Idogo, in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area. According to the Corps, the operation followed weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance after reports emerged that diesel allocated for the road project was being diverted and sold to a criminal network. Acting on credible intelligence, officers laid an ambush and intercepted the suspects after a dramatic chase.
